The Ohio river is known for it's vast selection of weird fish and creatures in the water. People have seen everything from small fresh water sharks to Alligator Gar. Well now you can add Alligators to that list. On July 23rd 2017 Ben Shoemaker and his family were swimming in the Ohio river when they noticed something in the water. Ben told us "it was a hot humid day so we decided to take a dip". He said "at first I thought it was a log. That sucker must have been at least 9ft long, he was huge". Ellen Shoemaker, (wife of Ben Shoemaker) said "we love living on the river, it gives us a year round pool" she followed up with "now we are afraid to go near the water". Ben called the Point Pleasant police department but by the time officer Reynolds arrived the alligator was gone. Ben and Ellen's son Garrett was able to capture a picture of the alligator on his phone before it disappeared into the depths. Officer Reynolds said "we hope this is the only one in these waters but people should be very cautious about swimming and fishing till this alligator is caught or found dead". If you have more information or see the alligator please don't approach it and call you local authorities.
