Former Presidential Candidate and Massachusetts Governor, Mitt Romney, admits in Deseret Times interview that his repeated public breaks with President Trump and his administration will result in his personal salvation based on Mormon teachings. Governor Romney points out the Mormon or Church of Latter Day Saints belief that God will spare those that not only profess faith but also perform good works here on earth. In the extensive interview, Romney says "that we Mormons have to do more than talk about our love for God and Jesus. It is essential that we do good things in the here and now. That includes opposing those that seek to demean and bully others." When asked if this includes President Trump, Romney offered up a variation of the old saying that "if the shoe fits, then you have to wear it." He also did not rule out a run for the Presidency in 2020 and said that Mormon Republicans are more likely to oppose the President because of their experiences with religious bias against Latter Day Saints.
