Two buildings on Evans Avenue in Fairview have been condmned due to unsafe living conditions.
22 and 24 Evans have a history of being under the weather in many ways. In 22, the plumbing was so bad; human feces were coming up people's tubs and toilets from other apartments. Sinks were backing up and ceilings were leaking in both building, causing a bathroom ceiling to cave in on a tenant in 24. There was mould, mice inside, rats creeping around outside, fleas, bedbugs and cockroaches. There were holes in almost every wall, and just before they were condemned they looked like they went through a world war. There were no security doors, people's apartment doors and locks were gone or replaced with mismatched ones, windows were smashed, fire extinguishers were gone and anyone had access to boiler rooms. Not to mention the laundry rooms were out of order due to damage and theft as well as no mail boxes due to the same.
Outside of the buildings once read large derogatory words painted out on the road, as well as in the back parking lot of 22. There were a series of garbage bin fires at both buildings as well as other fires inside the building and outside, many assaults and a few drug busts. There were no super-indendants for many months and tenants have reported that no property managers or owners have come by for months as well. Many tenants were even aware that the buildings were destined for failure, one way or another.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
