On August 22, 2016 College Junior, Loyiso Mqalo aka Lloyd, was crossing to go back to his room, which is on Albany St., when the driver of a black Audi A7 didn't follow the state law of yielding to pedestrian and struck the student resulting in a broken vertebral column which was fixed due to a surgery that took place the same day.

The owner of the Audi A7 appeared in court Friday, November 4 and his lawyers claimed that the incident was planned because the student told the driver to pass but ran across the sidewalk resulting in the crash.

According to the defendants lawyer this recent pedestrian accident craze has started a chain reaction. If a driver’s insurance doesn’t cover it, sometimes he or she will have no choice but to take to the streets themselves in order to pay for the damages. It has become a domino effect of people getting hit by cars, one after the other.

Brooks Memorial Hospital in Dunkirk has been overwhelmed with the treating of broken limbs, ribs and even broken hearts of the students who haven’t been successful with their lawsuit. The Madison County court is beginning to catch onto this trend, due to the influx of pedestrian accidents in the past month.

“This is the eighth pedestrian hit by a car in the past three days,” said Madison County Chief Clerk Kathleen Krauza. “Every other week, the courtroom is just flooded with injured people. I’ve been forced to work overtime.”

Fortunately for Loyiso, the judge ruled in favor of him and argued that the driver should have given him the right of way since it was a state law. The $300 000 settlement is for the insurance charges for the surgery and also for "traumatic experience" scars

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
