The Madison County Sheriff's Office arrested three men from Detroit on Monday during a traffic stop in which they were found with more than 500 oxycodone pills with a street value of about $20,000.

Arrested were:

Devin Gomez, 25, of Detroit is charged with drug trafficking, obstruction of justice by giving false information and receiving stolen property. The stolen property was a pistol reported stolen in Madison County. Gomez's bond has been set at just over $1 million.

Donald Hernandez, 25, of Detroit is charged with drug trafficking. Hernandez's bond is also set at $1 million.

Angelo Garcia, 23, was charged solely with second-degree possession of marijuana, Salomonsky said. Garcia, who is also not from Madison County, was released Monday on $500 bond.

The men were arrested Monday following weeks of investigation, said Lt. Michael Salomonsky, commander of the department's narcotics division. Investigators pulled them over on Jordan Lane, near its intersection with Plummer Road.

Salomonsky told reporters Tuesday morning that the men were suspected of "large scale" distribution of the powerful pain medication. They are believed to have come to Madison County, where at least one of the men has family ties, to make a larger profit off of the pills.

"Here, for the oxycodone pills, 30 milligrams are roughly $35 a piece, okay. But in Detroit, they may only sell for $5 or $10," Salomonsky said. "If I have a quantity of pills and I can only get $5 or $10 for them in Detroit, if I come to Huntsville, where the market is $35 a piece, look at the difference in the profits that are made.

The lieutenant said the high bond amounts for the men from Detroit were, in part, due to their attempt to give false identities when booked.

"The reason this was done was so they could get to jail, make bond and be gone, and then we would not exactly know who they were," Salomonsky said.

Salomonsky said though the men were traveling in a vehicle at the time of their arrest, they apparently traveled to Huntsville from Detroit via Grayhound. He said that traveling by bus allows a person to have a level of anonymity that other modes of travel might not.

Salomonsky has a warning for other visitors who might think of selling drugs in the community.

"The message is this: If you come from out of town, and you sell drugs in Huntsville and Madison County, you can expect that you're going to get the maximum we can give you under the law,"

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
