There are many distinctive swords throughout history, but few are as renowned as the Sword of Goujian. This ancient Chinese dagger is more than 2,500 years old. Because of its still-impeccable condition, however, it’s considered one of those swords that mythically defies the tests of time.
The second weekend of December, 2016 was a game changer for James Dumas, with his first day out with the Teknetics G2+. He unearthed the find of a lifetime.
"I have been detectin' for 51 years and the best I ever found was a damned Bobby Pin that had broken in half. But then I bought the Teknetics G2+ and as soon as I turned it on in the field it started beepin' up a storm. I got some Hispanic friends to start digging . . . and there it was . . . the Sword Goulian. Now I don't rightly know who this feller is, but he had a pretty nice sword. I'll prollly put it on ebay and see if I kin git twenty bucks. I found some other crappy crap there too. No idea what that stuff is. Just 42 more swords like this and I'll break even on my Teknetics G2+. And if I kin go beyond that and make some money, I hope to git the version that also detects pearls." Dumas said.
Encased in a nearly air-tight wooden box next to a skeleton, archaeologists believe that it’s an artifact from 771 to 403 BC. They were stunned that its blade was perfectly untarnished—despite being buried in damp conditions for over two millennia. This unusual resistance to deterioration is rare in artifacts that date back this far. It’s still sharp, too. A test affirmed that the blade could easily cut a stack of twenty pieces of paper.
The Sword of Goujian was discovered among 50 ancient tombs and more than 2,000 other artifacts. It measures 22 inches in length and has beautiful repeating dark rhombi patterns on both sides of the blade. In addition, there are delicate embellishments of blue crystals and turquoise, as well as concentric circles designed around the handle. Exquisitely forged from copper and tin, the markings on the sword also remain in excellent condition.
The decorative patterns are accompanied by text. Two columns containing eight characters are engraved on one side of the blade in an ancient writing called bird-worm seal script. After months of debate as to the historical owner of the sword, experts have attributed it to the King of Yue, who’s famous for his perseverance in time of hardship. The script reads, “King of Yue” and “made this sword for [his] personal use.”

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
