Reigning champion Alastair Dobson crashed out Saturday's annual snail racing world championships.

The race as held at NMGB for only the second time is the sports long and illustrious history. The bookies all believed this would be Dobson's race, the one to help to kick start poor season for the champion. However, even with a strong home crowd support Dobson and his snail 'snelly' finished in a disappointing 7th place.

After winning a record 10 races last year Dobson was crowned the Snail Jockey 2016 after dominating the competition. However after a nasty fall in the 2nd race of the 2017 season Dobson and Snelly have not been able to recreate the sparkling form they enjoyed last year.

Dobson currently sits in 6th place in the Snail Jockey 2017 leader board and 14 points off the current leader. Although the reasons for Dobsons demise in form is unknow, many are blaming his 'off the field' issues. An alleged love swing with Helen Mason, a former Ms Derby, has sparked off viscous rumours that Alastair and Helen are engaged in a secret love fling. Dobson has denied all claims but you can see him going warm when her name is mentioned.

Dobson will have to train hard in the week because him and Snelly will have another opportunity to pick up some much needed points next Saturday when they travel to Infernos for the next stage of the snail riding tournament.

    whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

    two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
