CHARLOTTE - NASCAR announced today that the 2017 Watkins Glen 335 will retain it's familiar layout once again when the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series takes to the Finger Lakes region road course in August.

"The racing we get at Watkins Glen is like nothing else on the calendar," said NASCAR Vice President Steve O' Donnell, "it brings out a fight in the drivers that even the best speedway wishes it could get. The fans are sure to be in for a show this August."

For years, fans have clamored for NASCAR to run the full Formula 1 course, including "The Boot." While 2017 won't see the change, could 2018 be the time NASCAR goes all out?

"Ultimately that's NASCAR's decision, but you never know," said Michael Printup, Track President of Watkins Glen International, "we are always constantly having discussions with NASCAR and will work with them no matter what format they choose to use."

For AJ Allmendinger, driver of the Kroger Chevrolet, he says the more turns, the merrier.

"Ultimately I see NASCAR's argument and why they don't to mess with a formula that has proven very successful. Still, you gotta wonder how much more excitement you can add to the track by throwing on those extra few turns, you know?"

From the way it sounds, the future of running the boot is already laced up.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
