Win a state title or else be considered a bust. These were the high expectations set upon the 2017 Cordova Wolves boy's soccer team, who entered the season with 12 seniors on the roster, including TSSAA All-State First Team members Jonathan Lopez (7,ST), Curtis Bloom (2,CB), and Selvin Lopez (18,G). The Wolves finished 12-5 last season, which ended with a blowout lost to the 2 nationally ranked Houston Mustangs in the state semifinals. However, new additions including Tomás Monserrat, junior, (80,MID), David Alvarado, senior, (69,DEF), Alexander Dinh, Junior, (9,MID), and freshman-phenomenon Hendrick Mendoza (58,ST) are already proving themselves to be major game changers, contributing to Cordova's early success. With the team's newly found success, we've decided to give some of the players the analytical summaries they've earned.

Jonathan Lopez (7), a 4-year varsity starter, has been an offensive threat on a nightly basis. The senior striker has scored 16 goals as well as recorded 11 assists over Cordova's first 8 regular season games, either scoring or contributing to 78 percent of Cordova's goals. Lopez is a 2x TSSAA All-State First Team member, and has multiple Division I offers, including big names North Carolina and St.Francis University.

Alexander Dinh (9), is an offensive machine that has the ability to strike fear in the opponent's defenses. Whether it's scoring 40-yard screamers to tightly defended headers, the junior midfielder can do it all. Although he's missed 3 games due to a bruised right knee, Dinh has scored 6 goals and recorded 9 assists in 7 regular season games. His potential is unlimited - however, his downfall may be his lack of experience - as he often struggles to adjust to playing such a large position in the team's offense, often playing up to 60 minutes a game.

Curtis Bloom (2), is an elite defender, and is perhaps one of Cordova's best defenders of all time. The senior, who is also one of two team captains, has the ability to shut down any offensive player at ease. This ability was especially showcased on March 27, when Cordova faced nationally ranked Houston, in which his defensive efforts only allowed Houston a 2-1 victory, compared to a 11-0 blowout last May.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
