Early Tuesday Morning, Hendrick Motorsports and Jimmie Johnson announced that the seven time champion will retire from NASCAR at the end of the 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. The move comes two days after fellow teammate Dale Earnhardt Jr announced his retirement. Johnson stated the reason for his retirement was, "Something I thought about for the past couple of seasons. After winning my seventh championship last year I thought about waking away on top because not many drivers have done that before. I wanted to be the first to do so! There's so many people to thank but I have to thank Jeff Gordon and Rick Hendrick for taking a chance on me. Without them I wouldn't be here today." Hendrick added, "Jimmie has been an amazing part of our companies history. He's always going to be apart of our team."

Johnson won his 82nd career Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race this past weeekend at Bristol Motor Speedway. Johnson joined Hendrick Motorsports in 2001 when he drove a limited schedule for the team after spending three years in the Xfinity Series. Johnson was discovered by Jeff Gordon, who also commented on the Seven Time Champions announcement, "Jimmie has been a huge part of Hendrick Motorsports and he's been an amazing teammate and friend. I can't wait to see what the future holds for Jimmie and wish him well the rest of the year."

Hendrick added, "Obviously we will miss Dale and Jimmie a lot next season but we are very excited for our 2018 plans, which we will announce in the coming months."

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
