3 supects sought in Santa Maria shooting

Police are looking for three men after a shooting in north Santa Maria sent one man to the hospital.

Santa Maria police officers found a 30-year-old man with a single gunshot wound to his upper body around 11:44 p.m. in the 200 block of West Tunnell Street.


A preliminary investigation revealed that three male suspects, wearing dark clothing, approached the victim as he got out of his parked vehicle. One of the suspects fired a weapon once at the victim, striking him in the upper body, according to the Santa Maria Police Department. SMPD later identified one shooter as 18 year old Joshua Sanchez. Sanchez's whereabouts are still unknown.

The suspects then fled the scene.

The 30-year-old man was transported to Marian Regional Medical Center and then airlifted to Cottage Hospital for treatment. Police expect him to survive.

The incident is currently under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call the Santa Maria Police Department at 928-3781, ext. 297.
