Illinois DNR were called to East Fork Lake to the report of an angler catching a shark. Illinois fish and wildlife officer Hugh Jorgan arrived to the boat ramp and confirmed the shark to be a female 5 1/2 foot bull shark. Dr. Sandy Kemp from Sanibel Florida arrived in Leesburg as to attempt to catch the shark, as it was reported earlier this week. By Jorgan's description of the shark Hemp believes it has given birth to at least 6 pups sometime in the last week. Bull sharks have on average 3 to six pups. This is a monumental occurrence as bull sharks have never been caught this deep in the intercontinental waterways of the United States. Bull sharks are able to store salt in their kidneys and use it as they need. Bull shark pups eat up to 85 percent of their body weight for the first year they are alive. Sharks prefer to attack in less than three feet of water , so fish and wildlife officers are in a scramble to find out for sure if their are pups and if this is a rouge shark. Watch your children swimming off the shoreline with extra caution as the Fourth of July festivities will make it prime hunting for sharks. Please if you see any sharks don't attempt to catch. Call your local Fish and Wildlife office and report. Thanks for your cooperation and have a safe holiday weekend.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
