In an unprecedented vote by UMC officials, Dr. Eugene Trueblood will head the North Georgia District of the United Methodist Church. Trueblood, who astounded critics with his orthodox interpretations of scripture based on the writings of the early church fathers and those of John Wesley, the originator of the denomination, has turned heads and created no small controversy over his strict adherence to traditional Methodist doctrine.
Billie Singletary, from Open Minds, Open Doors, a ecumenical Methodist organization stated for the record that "Dr. Trueblood is a menace to all that we hold dear as big tent Methodists, his hermeneutics are outmoded and we progressive Christians prefer a more relevant and post-modern way of looking at the Bible and church traditions. We feel that taking scripture just for what it says is close-minded and dogmatic. We think that you have got to look at things in relation to the person and where he/she/*he is in life and see if the old rules apply to their situation or not."
Dr. Trueblood was quoted as saying that "true Methodists believe the whole counsel of God, which is the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. We hold the Bible as our primary source of doctrine, but we are informed by early church tradition, Biblically-based reasoning, and our experience as born again Christians."
Mr. Singletary from Open Minds, Open Doors fears that if the traditionalists take over the UMC, then where will open minded folks like me go who are not tied to the old ways of scripture over people. We just believe that it is so important to have people in the pews and we just care about people generally and we have open hearts for their needs, and we think they should come to church and just get uplifted, not convicted. We don't want to beat people down over their sins, life beats them down enough, we just want to make them happy and to leave the services feeling good and encouraged.
Dr. Trueblood responded to these concerns by simply stating that he believed "Christ called all men to repentance first and then he built them up next. We want to ready people for God's kingdom spiritually, if that means pointing out their sin, then so be it. If I sugarcoat the Word of God, I would have to answer to God for that. Let's get them changed spiritually and then we can do some encouraging for their walk with Christ."
Parishioners and other Methodist officials interviewed said that they were hesitant about Dr. Trueblood and were not sure if he would work out in the end, but that it remains to be seen.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
