Springfield Man Found Dead In Ditch

The Springfield Police Department have identified the man who was found dead in a ditch near Wal-Mart on Thursday morning as James Cochran, a 29-year-old resident of the Southern View area who also has ties to Peoria, IL.
Cochran was found by a passerby at 8:42 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of 11th and Lejune Dr, which is adjacent to Wal-Mart and Aldi. The passerby was alarmed by a Siberian Husky who was running back in forth barking towards a tall patch of grass, that still has a leash attached to its harness.
He was partially submerged face down in about a foot of water, Springfield police said. A Pikachu backpack was found nearby, police said.
More than eight Springfield police officers were on the scene immediately after the call. One officer investigated in the ditch, and Springfield Ambulance workers climbed down the steep banks of the ditch, described as around 6 feet deep, and recovered the body by 9:30 a.m.
Cochran had evidence of defensive stab wounds to the hands as well as a deep gash to the back of the head. An autopsy and toxicology examination have yet to be completed. However, Police investigators believe that foul play is involved.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild.
