Reports from the National Observatory have successfully calculated the path of St Dominic's asteroid, the metallic object which has been circling closer to Earth in recent years. The object, technically classified as an asteroid, had recently broken loose from the belt of other asteroids clustered between Mars and Jupiter. Estimates place impact with Earth anywhere between late October and early November.

Comprised of ice crystals, deposits of iron, magnesium, palladium and nickel; St Dominic's asteroid was named for the patron saint of astronomers after its discovery by Dr. Jacobsen, a devout Catholic on loan to the National Observatory from the University of Notre Dame.

Measuring approximately two kilometers across, it is expected to break-up upon entry to the atmosphere and the smaller pieces will incinerate before landfall. It is impossible to predict the actual impact of an object in this size-range, however. Estimates suggest that the town of Swanzey, New Hampshire may face anything from no serious damage to the threat of hailstone-sized debris. Debris of this size, given the superheated conditions and speed of descent, could cause damage to homes and cars if the impact zone is a populated area.

Swanzey, New Hampshire is a small hamlet near the better-known city of Keene, NH. Keene is the home to Keene State College as well as an annual Pumpkin Festival which attracts visitors from across the New England Region. Despite it's proximity to Keene, Swanzey is lightly populated. Therefore, the government has no plans to call for an evacuation of the residents.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
