Vantaa resident Ted Leonard punked many Facebook friends and family yesterday with a fake news story about having been re-hired as Max Weinberg's drum technician after almost 30 years away from that position. He posted a story he wrote himself on the infamous BREAKINGNEWS247.net website which appeared to be a legitimate news outlet, but which is, in fact, a 'spoof' site where anyone can enter their own content and story and then have it published on Facebook.

"I first learned about BREAKINGNEWS247 when an old friend, George DeLisle, had posted a fabricated story about his having won $250,000.00 on a lottery scratch ticket", said Ted.

"I had looked the site over and quickly came to the realization it was indeed a spoof site, as the 'Most Popular' 5 stories included headlines such as, 'Police Find Satanic Ritual Dungeon Inside Abandon [sic] Johnson City Skate Park' and 'Greensburg Clown Found Eating A Live Cat'.
Upon closer examination I found a link at the bottom of the page with a link to 'Create a Prank', where, in the spirit of creating awareness in the age of Drumpf, I decided to make my own fake news. I jumped on the link quickly, as there would be precious little time to utilize this 'spoof machine' before many other FB friends would become aware of it, thus diminishing its effectiveness", he said.

Ted continued, "Even though I concocted a somewhat plausible 'story', I thought friends would check the source, but it appears that many were unaware, as they posted 'like', 'love' and 'wow' emojis as well as comments containing 'congratulations' - a keyword that algorithms seek out within FB posts, causing it to appear on even more of my friends' news feeds. Some were 'playing along' in their comments - a fact that was confirmed by their use of the 'laughing' emoji, but many others - good friends with genuine love and good intentions - were truly happy for my perceived good fortune. To these friends I sincerely apologise for having manipulated their emotions in this way."

Ted concluded, "Y'all be careful in here..."

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
