Hunt football player charged with attempted murder

Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Penny Lane shortly before 7:30 a.m. When police arrived, they found 21-year-old Cierra F. Taylor suffering from a gunshot wound to her leg, according to Sgt. Steve Stroud.

Taylor was taken to Wilson Medical Center for treatment.

Stroud said after conducting an investigation, police obtained arrest warrants for 17-year-old Joshua Joyner. He is wanted on charges including attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

Police were still actively searching for Joyner Wednesday afternoon.

Joyner has convictions including felony larceny, felony attempted breaking and entering stemming from Wilson County cases, according to state records.

He also has pending charges in unrelated cases here including robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon serious injury and possession of a firearm by a felon, according to court documents. The hunt football star is considered armed and dangerous.

Officials ask anyone with information regarding this incident or Joyner’s whereabouts to call the Wilson Police Department at 252-399-2323 or CrimeStoppers at 252-243-2255.
