Special weather statement in effect for the City of St. John's and the Avalon Friday, December 15th, 2017.

Warnings have been issued for almost all parts of central and eastern Newfoundland, which will see a mix of freezing rain, rain, wind, and up to 40 cm of snow.

Things are not much better in the U.S. Northeast, where a winter storm dropped nearly 60 centimeters of snow in Massachusetts Thursday, and the governors of New York and New Jersey declared states of emergency.

Due to high winds and waves, people close to sea, beach or coastal rivers are strongly advised to move to higher ground and continue to listen for information updates.
If you cannot move to higher ground take shelter in the upper storey of the strongest building available.

DO NOT RETURN to your homes straight after the Tsunami Warning Cancellation but REMAIN ON THE SAFE AREAS for at least three hours or until an ALL CLEAR MESSAGE is issued.

If you are near the sea and feel the shaking of a strong earthquake that lasts more than 20 seconds if the sea goes quickly dry, or you hear a loud hissing sound, you may only have minutes until a tsunami arrives and must move to higher ground. Do not wait for an official tsunami warning.

For urgent assistance call your nearest Provincial Disaster Emergency Operations Centres or your nearest Police Station.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
