A new study completed by Univeristy of Minds has taken a charge on reducing teachers' workloads.
This study completed with full cooperation of The Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario (ETFO) after recent results of sick days taken by teachers skyrocketed an astonishing 367 since the retraction of banking sick days 5 years ago.
What does this mean to taxpayers? Let's take a look - 5 years ago the average teacher took 4 sick days per year or $1,076 per year. Over the past 5 years the average teacher is taking 14.68 days per year or $3,952, 10 days at 100 salary and 4.68 days at 90. With over 110, 000 full time teachers in Ontario, this results in a $449,355,362.56 sick payout - up from $122,344,729.28 only 5 years ago, or $91 per household.
How will this new study help? The Liberals plan is to increase the number of teachers in Ontario by 25 or 28,425.28. New teachers will reduce workload and sick time taken by full-time members. They have estimated that this plan will reduce used sick days to 8 from 14.68. On average, this works out to $305,860,661.12 - a 32 reduction including sick days for the new teachers.
5 years ago tax payers expense $8,408,584,962.56 salary plus sick days, or $143 per month per household. The proposed 25 increase in new teacher hires results in a budgeted requirement of $10,254,859,861.12 (salary plus sick days) or $174 month per household.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
