As pictured, the beautiful Belmina Medanovic gleaming her smile as she completed her goal.

Two groups are gearing up for a special holiday toy drive in Des Moines. The Domestic Violence Christmas Toy Drive is a 15 year tradition.

It's a joint effort from the Des Moines Police Department and Miss Covergirl 2018, Belmina Medanovic to help children in need this Christmas.

Belmina Medanovic has been helping with the toy drive for the past three years and says it's his job to check Santa's list twice. And make sure kids in the area get presents under their Christmas tree.

"Merry Christmas,"said toy drive volunteer Belmina Medanovic.

She's one of Santa's little helpers spreading Christmas cheer and a few reminders.

"Santa's watching and watching," said Medanovic.

The spirit of giving and the importance of holiday charity are alive and well for Belmina Medanovic.

"I like helping out people," said Medanovic.

Belmina wanted to do something to benefit other kids. She knows not every kid in town has the blessings she has each holidays.

"My mom and dad helped me buy toys to put something in there," said Medanovic.

Her goal is to help Des Moines Police Police and Family Resources fill a camper up with as many toys as possible for kids in need.

"There are kids with adverse domestic relationships whether it's the parents. Whether it's victims of child abuse or victims of sexual assault," said Des Moines police officer Kris Mayer. "They have nothing, but guess what give them a couple toys and it makes their day."

But with your help she's making that possible.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
