The homeless epidemic in Australia is getting worse by the year with an estimated 105,237 homeless in Australia and 42.6 per 10,000 are considered homeless in Victoria. Nick James, former car detailing chain owner and chairman of The Lyn James Foundation is set to open up a chain of affordable boarding houses across Victoria over the next 5 years with the first three or four expected to open by January 2019.
"Homelessness has gone out of control and many come from interstate expecting our homeless services to support them so you can imagine their surprise when places like the Salvos constantly sit on millions of dollars and refuse to house these people," Mr. James said.
"A massive problem that exists is that it is often hard to decipher who is genuinely homeless and who come out to the streets daily with an animal and blankets pretending to be homeless, the CBD and especially Lygon Street is full of these people and the traders and residents are sick of it."
Whilst there will be a requirement to produce references and a bond Mr. James said his company will definitely assist if a prospective elderly tenant can't raise the complete amount.
It was reported recently that the head of the Salvation Army, Brendan Nottle used two Paul McCartney tickets that were donated for use by homeless people to take his daughter to the concert. He later said it wasn't appropriate to donate concert tickets as to accommodate them would be better. This implies that homeless people are not entitled to any entertainment and if so he shouldn't have accepted them in the first place but he wanted to to the concert and the only way to do so was to accept the tickets. Many people have asked why he used the tickets as he is supposed to be helping them find accommodation & instead of being at a late night concert should have been walking the streets looking for people to house.
Mr. James said "It is shocking that he can imply homeless people aren't entitled to entertainment but it is okay for him to attend a concert on tickets meant for our most vulnerable people, the Salvation Army are simply a very wealthy business now. They are not a charity. I'm opening up a chain of houses & the Salvos have only one hostel for men in the whole of Victoria after all these years. I don't think they have one for women and they see fit to block donations. If the charity that I chair did that we would be closed down. There is nothing worse than stealing from the homeless," he said.
Boarding houses often open in cheaper locations like some dangerous parts of the western suburbs such as Sunshine where African gang culture is rife and attacks on innocent people frequent but Mr. James wants to avoid those areas as he wants his tenants to be in a safer area. He is confident this can be achieved whist keeping the rental costs affordable.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
