Since 2013 the United States Secret Service has been working hand in hand with Homeland Security's Investigations group called "HSI". Readers may remember the all to common fraud schemes like the Liberty Reserve cases worked jointly by the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation, HSI, and the Secret Service.

“The U.S. Secret Service, in coordination with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Global Illicit Financial Team (GIFT) hosted by IRS-Criminal Investigations (IRS-CI) executed and arrested search warrants in seven countries that also include Spain and the Netherlands. Assets of Liberty Reserve will also be frozen in Hong Kong, Spain, Morocco and China,."

This coordination has fostered a long working relationship between the two agencies that moved under the Department of Homeland Security after the September 11th attacks.

HSI began supporting Secret Service protective missions around 2013 and has proven to be a necessary and beneficial partnership for both agencies. Unknown to most, HSI agents provide a large footprint for National Special Security Events "NSSE"s such as the United Nations summit in New York City.

Leaders from the agencies, responding to recommendations from DHS Office of Inspector General who provides oversight for both HSI and the Secret Service, have developed a 5 year plan to merge the agencies. This measure, prompted by the Trump administration's focus on consolidating the government and saving money, will assist the manpower needs of the Secret Service and provide additional opportunities and collaboration in the already overlapping fraud and money laundering cases worked by the agencies.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
