(KABC) -- Narcotics investigators seized nearly $7 million in marijuana plants and products at a strip mall in Los Angeles County.

Authorities from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department's Marijuana Dispensary Task Force served a search warrant at the mall located in the 27000 block of Sierra Highway at approximately 8 a.m. Tuesday
Investigators said they found an elaborate indoor marijuana growing operation in several of the strip mall units, and they credit this discovery to a citizen informant who called to report possible illegal narcotics activity in the area.

In total, 2,484 marijuana plants, 200 pounds of finished product, an undetermined amount of cash and 50 pounds of edible THC-infused products were seized.
The street value of the marijuana plants was estimated to be $6,210,000, and the street value of the finished products and edibles was estimated to be $500,000, investigators said.

Authorities also found an elaborate air-conditioning and filtering system, which was used to grow marijuana indoors and prevent the odor from seeping out.

A men was detained at the scene, but was released pending further investigation. Sheriff's officials said 22-year-old Jose Alberto Alvarez of Los Angeles, was arrested for possession of marijuana for sales.

He was booked at the Los Angeles sheriff's station and has since bonded out.

The investigation is ongoing. If you have any information about this case, you're urged to contact the LASD's Information Bureau at (909) 491-3023.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
