An ongoing HMRC investigation in the North East district of Moray has begin to gather pace due to a series of calls to the whistleblower hotline set up by the council to help catch potential tax evaders thought to be operating in the area after an anonymous complaint to the local council.

We spoke to a registered electrician in the area, Karl Kowalski, who runs his own VAT registered business serving local homes about the problem, he said "Its an absolute disgrace, I'm here working hard and paying my taxes including PAYE for the three guys that I employ trying to make an honest living and yet you have all these guys undercutting me".

In our discussions with Karl and other registered electricians who did not want to be quoted for fear of retribution from the "North Sea Tigers" we discovered that a lot of the individuals that are said to be performing these tax free duties are actually fully employed offshore Oil and Gas workers who, although earning what would be a good salary for the majority of the constituent's of the Moray area, choose to let greed take over when they come home and ply their trade at a lower cost than the register electricians as they are not paying VAT, income tax or taking out liability insurance in case of any safety mishaps.

We asked Karl if he had contacted the hotline set up by the council "I' no grass, in Poland where I come from if you grass you can get in a lot of trouble very quickly. I do think the hotline is a good idea and I hope people use it as these charlatan's often have substandard work and don't do things safely!!"

We spoke to local councillor for Elgin City North, Cllr F Brown, a leading name in the taskforce about the issue. "I just think its an utter disgrace that these people are already employed and making significant sums of money from there current employers and then taking business from the local pool of tradesmen by grossly undercutting them".

We challenged the Councillor and asked him what was wrong with doing the odd job for a friend or family member here and there but his belief was the problem ran much deeper. "Its not just a simple task here and there like moving a plug socket or changing a bulb for friends and family. These people are performing major construction works with reports of the individuals performing tasks such as complete home rewiring to installing large electrical appliances in peoples homes. It has to stop."

A representative from HMRC has told us that they are closing in on multiple suspects within the Moray area with multiple persons under surveillance. They declined to give further details on the matter as they believed in the very near future there investigations would lead to a successful prosecution.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
