Lake Benton-MN Sunday, a shark attack happened 50 yards from the beach near the Stoney Point Recreation and Campground area yesterday at 10:45 am.

Connie Ferguson and her family drove down to Stoney Point Recreation and Campground Area from Flandreau to go tubing. Before they were going tubing they decided to go swimming first. Caleb was some 50 yards from shore in 5 feet of water and 55 °F (13 °C) water. Connie and Brett's son Jacob noticed a dorsal fin in the water and at first he thought it was a piece of drift wood, but then the fin was moving and he can notice that it was a shark. 15 year old Caleb fought off the shark after the shark attacked him and then it release him and he swam to the beach and everyone made it to shore safely. He was rushed to the Lake Benton Medical Clinic Avera where doctor saved his life and his leg. Scientists confirmed it was a 10 foot bull shark that attacked Caleb Ferguson.

Brian Briar, National Resources Department in Marshall MN says, "Bull Sharks are known to be able to swim between salt and fresh water. Although they are able to swim in fresh water typically they are only found in tropical rivers around the world." This is the first shark attack of a bull shark in Lake Benton, Minnesota history. Now, scientists are going to investigate how a bull shark got this far north from the Gulf of Mexico all the way up to a lake in Minnesota. The owner of Stoney Pointe and Recreation Area decided to close the beach that is near the boat docks for Sunday and Monday. The beaches will remain open on Tuesday.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
