Montesquieu was born January 18, 1689, La Brède, France also attended Oratorian Collège de Juilly, at Meaux, where he received a modern education. Returning to Bordeaux in 1705 to study law, he was admitted to practice before the Bordeaux Parlement (parliament) in 1708. The next five years were spent in Paris, France, continuing his studies. During this period he developed an intense dislike for the style of life in the capital, which he later expressed in his Persian Letters. In 1715 Montesquieu married Jeanne de Lartigue, a Protestant which was a member of the church that had left the rule of Roman Catholicism), she brought him a large dowry (sum of money given in marriage).
Although he studied law Montesquieu had no great enthusiasm for law as a profession. He was much more interested in the spirit that lay behind law.he sold his office as president of the Bordeaux Parlement in 1721. With his newly freed time he wrote the Persian Letters, they were published without his name and won him the approval of the public and the displeasure of the governor. Montesquieu said " Laws "must be adapted to each peoples." Hes saying you cant just throw a new law in someones face and exspect them to follow it.
Montesquieu was best known for his thoughts on the separation of powers. No branch of the government could threaten the freedom of the people. His ideas about separation of powers became the basis for the United States Constitution. He believed egislative, executive, and judicial powers were separate and kept each other in check to prevent any branch from becoming too powerful. Despite Montesquieu's belief in the principles of a democracy, he did not feel that all people were equal. Montesquieu approved of slavery.
I think Montesquieu would be mad, because the world has changed so much throughout the years, although he believed these things that dosen't mean it would be legal or right in today's world.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
