Luke Sorum started his battle with Crohn’s disease at 13 years old. However, it took another decade before doctors actually diagnosed him with the gastroenterology disease that can affect everything from severe abdominal pains to constant fevers. Still, Sorum pushed through the ups and downs of the disease disputes severe fecal incontinence.

“I was about 12 or 13 when I first started getting symptoms of Crohn’s but at that age, you don’t really know what’s going on. So I just ignored it as it was an embarrassing thing to talk about and just got on with life. After a few years it progressively got worse but at that stage, it was so normal that again I just accepted it and got on with it. It wasn’t until I became so ill that I was wiped out, in excruciating pain, and I couldn’t go on that I finally sought out medical advice- not to mention constantly dealing with fecal incontinence. It was insane that I took so long to address the situation but when you are dealing with a hard-to-talk-about subject and there’s so much going on that you don’t want to miss out on, then youth can lead you to some very poor choices. I urge anyone who has symptoms to address them as early as possible. I didn’t end up getting diagnosed until I was 23 and by then it was so far down the line that it was hard to come back from it without an extreme consequence.”

Sorum continues to require the use of incontinence briefs as well as daily stool-hardening medication to try to control symptoms.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
