CEDAR CITY- A Cedar City resident is set to be the youngest female in Utah State history to be appointed to a judiciary seat- and the 2nd youngest in U.S. history. Ashley Petker, 26, has left an impression on district justice system employees not just county wide, but in several states spanning the western coast of the United States. Iron County District Court Judge John J. Walton and United States Senator (Republican, Utah) Orrin Hatch both approve overwhelmingly in Petker's favor, leaving no doubt that her determination and intelligence will be the deciding factor in her success.

"Ms. Petker is unmatched in her ability to quietly contemplate a courtroom proceeding, having a knack to remain unphased should she hear key evidence in which could [change] the outcome of a trial. In my 27 years on the bench; she is a force to be reckoned with for opposing council.", Judge Walton states. Hatch is equally enthuastic in emphasizing that one would be foolish to make speculation of ability based on Petker's quiet manner.

Local reporter Dayna Sullivan collaborated with the National Association of Women Lawyers (NAWL), and was provided an excerpt from The National Law Journal (in which Petker was featured, digital edition).

"The 26 year old single mother of two is anything but as forthcoming with details and, in fact, rather modest when asked about her accomplishments. Upon approaching her outside the court room, she is relaxed and friendly, although reserved and soft spoken. Whilst not nearly her most important attribute, it is hard not to notice that the slender green-eyed brunette is a stunner, moreso alluring that she seems not to see the head's turn as she passes.

But as we enter the courtroom and upon the beginning formalities, there is a sudden shift in Petker's posture. The once easy going woman stands from her chair to assist in opening statements, and the focus in the room immediately turns to her. Where most would command respect, her well spoken eloquence almost entices it. She is a presence all in herself, and the respect for her in the room is palpable.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
