JPSO: Man Arrested for Mass Cruelty to Animals on Monday

On Monday, November 5 officials seized more than 100 animals that have been severely mistreated at a Jefferson Parish home in response to an anonymous tip. Jesus Guerrero-Macias, 35 of Guatemala was arrested for 75 counts of cruelty to animals. The seizure included 39 puppies, 35 dogs, 24 cats, 11 kittens and one horse from the property after officials obtained warrants. When authorities entered a small beaten warehouse in the back of the property, the animals were found in cages and appeared to be extremely malnourished, have severe hair loss, open sores, eye discharge, diarrhea and matted fur. The suspects motives with the animals are still unclear.
Sheriffs office deputies in conjunction with local animal control authorities removed the animals late Monday morning. He was booked into the local detention facility with a bond set at only $10,000. He posted bond and was released from jail the next day and is currently awaiting trial. The investigation is ongoing and no further details were given.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
