Garden Heights – Riots broke out across Garden Heights after a verdict was reached concluding that officer 115 was not guilty for shooting and killing Khalil, a young, unarmed black man. Rioters attacked police stations and businesses around the city spray painting “black owned” on the fronts of local stores so people knew not to target them.
Thirteen weeks ago, Khalil was shot in the back three times by police officer 115 on the way home from a party. The officer thought he saw Khalil pick up a gun after he saw him move toward the open window on the driver’s side of the car, however, Khalil had only picked up a hairbrush and was otherwise unarmed. A witness was in the car but until tonight, their identity has remained hidden. In the midst of the riots a young girl by the name of Starr Carter climbed to the top of a squad car and revealed that she was the witness who was in the car with Khalil. The crowds began to chant but the chants ended when tear gas was thrown into the crowd by police officers.
Riots are expected to continue but it is unknown what kind of impact that Starr Carter and the reveal of her identity will have on the community. Many members of the garden heights community have rallied behind her and see her as a leader in the fight for justice for Khalil.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
