North Smithfield, R.I. When the Swamp Donkeys and Twin City Marine met for the final time last season, it was for all the marbles, the whole anchelada, the championship game. While the Donkeys were huge favorites to win that game to win their second championships in as many years, Twin City ultimately came out victorious with a huge upset. It was a heartbreaking way to end the season and to start a long summer break. One thing was for sure though. The Donkeys would come back with vengeance this season.

Last night at Rhode Island Sports Center, the Donkeys (10-3-0) rolled over Twin City (5-8-1) to complete the season sweep on them. The final score, 11-4. While Twin City isn’t having the season they’d hoped for coming off a championship season, it still feels good to beat them for the Donkeys players.

“Yeah it’s always good to beat the defending champion. You know, whenever you play them you kind of elevate your game a little because we know what happened last season, so it’s a good feeling to come out this season and sweep them and kind of put last season behind us finally,” defenseman Jeff Breault said after the game.

As sweet as this victory is for the Donkeys, they know that there’s still a lot of hockey left to play this season.

“Great game all around I thought. Coming off the holiday break it usually takes a little while to get the legs going, which you saw a little bit early on there. But when we start clicking we have the capability to do some damage. Still a lot of hockey left to play this year, take it one game at a time and can’t sit on this game too long. We’ll enjoy it tonight but starting tomorrow we’re onto preparing for next weeks game against the Raiders,” captain Jared Bebeau said after the game.

As for next weeks opponent, the Raiders sit dead last in the standings at 1-12-0. The Donkeys are undefeated all time against the Raiders and they will be looking to keep it that way.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
