North Smithfield, R.I. The last time the Swamp Donkeys (10-3-0) and the Raiders (1-13-0) were set to play each other, the Raiders pulled a total loser move and forfeited the game. They didn’t even want to show up to the rink. Tonight, they are set to play again, and the Donkeys are looking to make them wish they had forfeited again.

“We were all kind of upset about the forfeit, you know, we prepare for a game and get fired up only to have it called off. If it’s a snow storm, or something wrong with the rink that’s one thing, but to just not show up because you don’t want to lose? That’s just a bulls—- move,” Captain Tyler Hopkins said via phone call.

We are now in the second half of the season, and the Donkeys are fighting for the top spot in the league, so every win is important. They cannot and will not take in account the Raiders record or the fact that the Raiders have never beaten the Donkeys in the history of these two teams.

“It doesn’t matter what the record is, any team can beat any team on any given night in this league. Everyone has off nights and things can go wrong, so we just need to stick to our game plan and play with energy and we’ll be okay,” forward Eric Breault said during this mornings optional skate.

With that being said, the Donkeys should not have any difficulties handling the Raiders tonight, and they even called backup goalie Bryan (Bobby Tallent) Gallant up from the Absolute Mules, the Donkeys farm team. Gallant has been outstanding for the Mules, posting a 9-2-0 record and a 1.98 GAA (goals against average). Gallant was supposed to start against the Raiders in the previous meeting, but we all know how that ended, so he is certainly excited to be getting the call for this one.

“Very excited, always a good feeling to get the call up to the show. I know it won’t be for much longer than tonight, so I need to come out strong and help the boys get a win. These opportunities don’t come too often so I’m just looking forward to it and hopefully we get the W,” Gallant said during this mornings optional practice.

Let’s hope the Raiders actually show up to play tonight! Go Donks! Puck drop is set for 9:20 PM ET at Rhode Island Sports Center.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
