North Smithfield, R.I. During the second period of last nights game vs Inferno, the Donkeys found themselves in a similar position they found themselves in last time these two teams played. The Donkeys trailed Inferno by a slim 1 goal margin, however, they were confident the game was far from over.

The Donkeys went on to score 4 more goals from there on out to ultimately win the game by a final score of 6-4.

“We knew we had plenty of hockey left to play, and we were only down one, so we weren’t panicking or anything like that. We just stuck to our game plan and it ended up working out for us,” defenseman John Hanley said after the game.

Forward Eric Breault got the hat trick (3 gino’s) to lead the team and earn player of the game honors. Two of Breault’s goals came just 10 seconds apart, which is a Donkeys record for an individual player. He was just happy to get the win, however.

“It’s always good to get points on the board, but the only points I care about are the two points in the standings. Just glad I could contribute,” Breault said after the game.

Filling in at goal for the injured Jared Bebeau was recent call up Bryan Gallant. Gallant, starting in his second game this season, said before the game that he was just hoping to play well enough to help the team get a win. That he did. Gallant made a few breathtaking saves to keep the Donkeys ahead late in the game, which proved to be huge as there was a late push from Inferno.

“It got a little nerve wracking there at the end a little, not going to lie,” Gallant said with a chuckle. He continued, “the boys did a good job getting the puck out of the dirty areas and made my job a little easier, so that’s always a plus. They hit a couple posts, but overall I was pretty satisfied with my game personally and with the team as a whole.”

Gallant’s teammates were appreciative of his efforts as well, including recently injured goaltender Jared Bebeau.

“He played great, all we could ask of him was to keep us in it and he did exactly that and some. He even flashed a little leather out there too and made a few unbelievable saves. It was fun to watch,” Bebeau said after the game.

A late roughing penalty on forward Steve Hole put the pressure on the Donkeys to work even harder to secure the win. But 8 seconds into the penalty kill, Inferno decided to pull their goalie for the extra attacker and make it a 6-on-4 situation for a late surge. The Donkeys caused a turnover in the neutral zone and defenseman John Hanley, in an attempt to clear the puck out of harms way, buried the puck in the empty net from the far blue line.

That would take care of business as the Donkeys held on for the final 43 seconds to secure the win and move to 13-3-0 on the season. They are now winners of their last 4 contests and will be looking for a season high 5 straight wins next Tuesday night against an always tough Jabronis team, who are one of three teams to beat the Donkeys this season.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
