“It’s an honor to play for the American Heart Association. It means a great deal to donate the money to a cause that means so much to me.”- Jimi Sand

Playing poker as a child with her grandfather, Giuseppe Baglieri, who hailed from Sardinia, Italy, also with rumored partner ties to the notorious hit man Benjamin “Lefty Guns” Ruggiero of Mulberry St in Brooklyn, New York, she stuck with it in her adulthood, a game she was born into, the game turned into a very enduring and lucrative quality.

If you ever find yourself listening to “Where Have All The Cowboys Gone” by Paula Cole, you tend to be sure they’ve all died with the likes of John Wayne, but, Robert Culp was no one-trick pony. With over 50 years onscreen for television and film, he was a Master marksman with a personal collection of over 200 firearms. It was common knowledge among those who knew him and fans alike that he could shoot any target with deadly precision from a mere 100 yards away. Culp was also an avid poker player who taught the woman in his life a rare skill set behind the walls of none other than the Playboy Mansion for more than 8 years.

“Robert was good friends with Hugh Hefner so we spent many Monday, Wednesday and Saturday nights at the Playboy Mansion playing poker whether I liked it or not. He’d drag me along every time so I could learn to play as good as the boys. We’d play for keeps, high stakes, tons of cash on the table and it was dead serious, if you’d ever witnessed a poker face, she jokes, “I did skip the Viagra being offered at the table though.”

Those trips to the mansion paid off handsomely this year for the fiancée of America’s Greatest Hero. This year’s tournament invited such celebrity poker pros as Tobey Maguire, Laura Prepon and Tropher Grace of That 70’s Show, ex-boyfriend Giovanni Ribsi and actress Isla Fischer with her husband Sacha Cohen and brought in over $6 million dollars.

Robert Culp died of a head injury sustained from a fall during a heart attack in March 2010 at the age of 69, and very needless to say the tournament hit close to home.

“To lend a hand to the American Heart Association is an ambition and a goal of mine for the last few years since Robert’s passing. I have an extraordinarily close friend from junior high school, who suffers from CHF, we are relatively the same age at that, and it’s scary, very scary. Hopefully this money will help with research on battling heart diseases and raise the bar on the quality of life so many folks can ill afford, to give them a chance to live healthy and long lasting lifestyles.”

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
