Maybe Texas isn't all it's cracked up to be.

BUFFALO-- The Mavericks are getting a new hometown and a new logo -- much to the chagrin of longtime fans in Dallas.
The team announced on Sunday that it will move to Buffalo in 2019, where it will become the city's first NBA team since the bitter departure of the Braves.

The Mavs started out Dallas, playing their first season as a franchise there in 1981. However, they had a difficult start, being the third NBA team in the Lone Star State, and going up against a stronghold of football fans in Dallas.

The move comes after the Mavericks failed to get a ballot measure passed that would have built a new arena using public funding. The existing home of the Mavericks, American Airlines Center, opened in 2001, and is also used by the Dallas Stars Hockey team, a team which controls 51 of the revenue at the present. There is no word on whether the team will change name and mascot with the new location, perhaps paying tribute to the rich history and culture of Buffalo.

The news was confirmed in a letter from team owner Mark Cuban.

"[Dallas] will always be a part of our identity," Cubanwrote. "Our organization knows that we have a tremendous amount of work to do. We must earn the respect and support of all of Buffalo."

Cuban also said the Mavs must "get back to winning" and that the team will be a "champion for the community."

"The Mavericks are determined to fight for BUffalo and we are excited to get started," he said.

Dallas mayor Mike Rawlings said the Mavericks were unwilling to work with the city on a new stadium deal.

"The Mavericks wanted a lot more taxpayer money than we were able to give,"[The Marvericks' owner] made a bad decision and he will regret it. Dallas didn't lose the Mavericks, the Mavericks just lost Dallas. Maybe even all of Texas"

The Mavericks declined to comment.

Buffalo hasn't had an NBA team since 1978, but the league has been eager to install one in the city, which is a lucrative market.

Eventually the Mavericks will move into a new stadium that's set to be built near Buffalo Niagra International airport, but for the meanwhile they will play at KeyBank Center.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
