Former Disney Channel star Ryan Christopher Lee was officially announced as the lead of "Shang-Chi" this morning, marking the first time an Asian American leading man will play the title character in a Marvel Studios movie.

After months of rumors, the actor, also known for his roles in "I Didn't Do It", "Wendell and Vinnie", and (going further back) the Disney Jr. show "Special Agent Oso", was revealed at San Diego Comic-Con as the star of what is being called “The Asian Black Panther”.

Lee took the stage during the Marvel’s Hall H panel, joining Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige as well as the casts of Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2, and Spider-Man: Homecoming for a Marvel family portrait.

He later tweeted a photo of himself wearing a Marvel Studios cap to celebrate the announcement. “Call me Shang-Chi,” he wrote.

In the comics, Shang-Chi is the son of China-based globalist who raised and educated his progeny in his reclusive China compound, closed off to the outside world. The son trained in the martial arts and developed unsurpassed skills. He is eventually introduced to the outside world to do his father’s bidding, and then has to come to grips with the fact his revered father might not be the humanitarian he has claimed to be and is closer to what others call him: The Devil’s Doctor. He also might be centuries old. The deceit makes them bitter enemies.

Marvel Studios is setting director Destin Daniel Cretton to helm the film, its first superhero movie tentpole franchise with an Asian protagonist.

“Shang-Chi” is set to hit theaters in June of 2021.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
