Judice Inn has been on just about every "top burger" list that I've seen in town since I was old enough to read. As Thrillest author Nora McGunnigle noted, Judice Inn has been on top of their game since they were the last thing you saw before leaving town. Lafayette has changed a lot over the last 70 years, but the tastiness has remained the same.

Old fans of Judice Inn in Lafayette will be saddened to hear that the iconic burger joint will officially close its doors April 30, 2019, citing real estate difficulties.

“The Inn" was first opened on April 5, 1947 by two brothers, Alcide and Marc Judice. After serving in different branches of the service during WWII, Al and Marc physically built the original building themselves (with the help of many of their family members) under the light of flashlights after their primary day jobs were complete. With the help and support of their wives (Pearl Cormier Judice and Gladys Bourque Judice), the brothers opened the business on a shoestring budget and long hours. Their commitment to product quality and personalized customer service exemplified the brothers’ pride in their business. The word of the "best hamburgers in town" quickly spread throughout Acadiana and though the business originally was considered far outside the city limits, the restaurant was soon frequented by businessmen, laborers and SLI (now UL Lafayette) students who thought the drive was well worth the trip.

“This decision is certainly not without great sadness and emotion,” said the owner of Judice Inn. “We greatly appreciate our customers and our employees, and we really wish that we could continue to exist in this location for many more decades. Unfortunately, the cost of real estate in this community exceeds our ability to offer our products and services at a price point that remains competitive and attractive to our guests. We would like to thank the City of Lafayette for their constant support and patronage during our many years of business. We also would like to thank our guests who came to us regularly and made this place a landmark and family tradition.”

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
