Chatham-Kent Heritage Committee and Nathan Holth, creator of the Historic Bridges website (www.historicbridges.org) have been working together for the last year to determine what they could do with the soon to be demolished historic bridge.

The municipality of Chatham-kent own the bridge.  In a late night council meeting marathon to decide the fate of the bridge. Council voted to have the bridge moved to replace the 3rd street bridge in Chatham.  Unique because it would still be used to cross the Thames river.

Residents in the city of Chatham will be ecstatic to hear that they will gain history and more tourists.  Roland Smith says he wants to start a bridge themed tavern for tourists to visit to view the history.  It will be great to attract people from all over North America to view this site.  He believes it will attract millions of tourists to the region and compares it to the Grand Canyon

Thamesville resident and Councillor Steve Pinsonneault said "it would be a crying shame to lose this landmark to the scrap heap.  It has served the Thamesville community well and needs to be shared with everyone"  when asked if he was talking to Nathan "I have only spoken to Nathan once about the bridge and his desire to save it"

Local supporters of "save our historic bridge" group ralleyed for months to get the attention of the municipality. Gerald, the founder of the group says "our bridge is the staple of our current town, to demolish it would be like stripping the heart from the town"

Bridge relocation will begin in April of 2020.  Local engineers believe they can lower the structure into barges and float the bridge to Chatham saving millions on trucking and hauling of the structure. Councillor John Wright believes the savings to have the bridge floated down the river helped the saving of the structure. To pay 10 million dollars to dispose of the bridge was unnecessary when 2 million can have it floated and saved.

Councillor Micheal Bondy loves the idea to have the bridge moved to Chatham as it will aesthetically enhance the downtown and revitalize the city.  The bridge will go for a restoration and cost 1.5 million.  It will be like the Capitol Theatre and help enhance the downtown core.  When completed it will attract patrons to the theatre and bring financial savings to the downtown core.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
