Washington city police confirm they are investigating a possible case of animal cruelty after an opossum was found badly burned Earlier this morning .

Licensed wildlife rehabilitator Gina Jackson says a family brought the animal to her around 5:00am on 5/29. “I looked at her and immediately my heart just dropped,” Jackson said. “We do get abuse cases. Every year they come in. This is by far the most horrific I’ve ever seen.”

“It was very obvious to me that she was burned,” Jackson said. “She had burns two inches wide all the way around her neck, all the way down her side, her ear was burned out with something round, she had some holes in her cheek as well as her neck. Her tongue was completely black, the roof of her mouth all the way to the back of her throat.”

Jackson says, at any one time, she’s caring for several dozen wildlife animals. “My house is full of animals,” Jackson said. “A lot of these were abused by teenagers”.

Jackson says she has been in contact with the Washington City Law Department and has been assured the matter is under investigation.

A charged of animal cruelty involving wild animals in Washington typically carries a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail and a $1,750 fine.

If you have any information on this case, please contact your local police department. There is a $1,500 reward on any leads leading up to an arrest.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
