Pastor Richard Fuller of Gospel Church of God in Barnwell, Alabama has pressed charges against 30-year-old Brendan Sweeney, on one account of violating the city’s anti-impiety ordinance.

Sweeney allegedly spent the duration of Fuller’s Sunday sermon screening 2 episodes of SpongeBob SquarePants on his smartphone, he was noticed by Fuller when he did not stand for the closing worship song, which is when he claims, he saw something on Sweeney’s phone.

“I noticed that Brendan was still sitting, fixed on that screen, as if it was his God,” Fuller told reporters. “I saw that cackling sponge clear as day while our church was singing praises to our Lord.”

The popular cartoon created by Stephen Hillenburg aired on the TV network Nickelodeon in 1999, the current year is it’s 20th anniversary, a fact cited by Sweeney in his defense.

“I mean I’ve been watching SpongeBob since I was a kid, it’s a legacy, it’s an emotional journey. I have to pay my tributes on such a milestone year. It’s important.”

After noticing the alleged screening, Fuller notified police of the incident. Sheriff Germaine Dancy was on scene when officers entered the church to take Sweeney into custody.

“We heard about a guy that was disturbing people in a church, and showed up immediately. We’re not going to allow these kind of troublemakers to run amok in this town. It’s important that we keep worshipers worshiping.”

Sweeney’s trial will take place later this month, with a possible maximum sentence of 20 years on the table.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
