2020 is looking to be a big year for LGBTQ people in Caithness with a new Pride event added to calendar in June for Wick. For many years activists in the Wick area have been pushing hard for there own pride event but have never managed to get the funding in place. Thankfully in 2020 the Highland Council have stood up to fill the funding gap and have offered local activists full funding for the 2020 event.

Steven McJohnson, a transexual living in the Caithness area and leader of the Caithness LGBTI social group, said that he was exceptionally pleased to see the event come to Wick and that the locals would do Caithness proud to show the tolerant and welcoming nature of the people of the highlands. Steven said he was out and proud and that the local community would put on a huge event to show everyone what the Highlands had to offer.

Wick and East Caithness Ward Councillor Nicola Sinclair said that the council had taken the decision to fund the event due to the overwhelming public support in the Wick area and the generally tolerant nature of its residents. "People often view the Highlands area to be backward and a bit old fashioned but we have a very vibrant and active LGBTQ community which is supported by all the local residents of all persuasions. What with the North Coast 500 and the incredible produce produced in the area we hope that Wick Pride will become an annual event and further show the world what a great place it is to visit and live".

The location is yet to be announced but if you are interested please keep an eye on the LGBTQ calendar here for further announcements - https://www.lgbtyouth.org.uk/news/2019/scottish-pride-calendar-2019

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
