Looking for some Christmas magic for you and your young family then what could be more magical than travelling to Lapland, the home of Santa Claus, to meet him and his elves who are busily working away to make all the toys for the children of the world. This is what many families spend £1000s each year looking for that dream start to Christmas but this year its turning into a Christmas nightmare for families visiting the Lapland village of Karesuando which has a severe outbreak of norovirus.

Sandra Peterson, a mother of three, who recently travelled to Karesuando described the scene quite vividly in a BBC Norfolk interview this morning. "It was like a horror scene, children looking ill and sick. The plan back was horrible, everyone was wearing lots of layers due to the cold temperatures so already hot and sweaty then you throw in multiple children and adults fighting for the bathroom to be sick. It was awful". She said of her two year old, Jessica, "Jessica is frightened of Santa now, she hasnt stopped crying in between the bouts of sickness since getting back home as she thinks he made her sick due to being a naughty girl". Sandra and her family were hopeful that they would all would recover by Christmas day so that they could salvage what was left of their Christmas cheer and goodwill to all men.

Karin Wanngård, a reindeer herder in the lappish village, said "The virus outbreak started a few weeks ago. Some sickly kid from a UK flight I believe. I warned our management that this was going to happen. Everyone was touching everything in abnormally warm conditions inside. Its a breeding ground for a biological agent - I am surprised it hasn't happened before". Our reporters spoke to multiple people working in the tourist industry in the area and all confirmed the same.

Karin went on to say "Rudolph is meant to be the one with a red body part, we are all laughing that it should actually be Rudolph the red bummed tourist what with all the sickness and diarrhea that is going around". Although horrendous it is heartening to see that there is still some humour within the teams working in the tourist industry and there are struggling on to salvage the Christmas spirit. James Little, a father of three from Birmingham, was full of praise for the team "Although it was horrible and like being amid an ebola outbreak it was great to see how the team in the village pulled together to make it work. The tinsel covered sick buckets were made me smile and the airline did there best to keep every happy on the way back by sitting the infected people away from the healthy folk".

We contacted multiple tour operators for comment but none were available or willing to provide any further information. For more information please visit the Karesuando Tourist Information website - http://www.karesuando.se/kdo/turist/info-eng.htm

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
