Greg Buchanan, a former highly regarded draft pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning was charged and arrested recently in Toronto, Ontario. Buchanan was charged with Refusal To Comply With Demand, Fleeing The Scene and Failure to Report Damage. Greg Buchanan came into the organization as a highly regarded prospect, he was known throughout as a good kid with a big heart for the game. It was expected he would eventually claw his way to the National Hockey League with his game, he played a rare nasty in your face style complimented with some skill for a bigger kid. 3 years in at age 21 the injuries would eventually take over. He began being seen heavy in the party scene throughout South Florida. Alcoholism would begin to take over his life, he would begin his downfall from there. After a rehab and summer at home training he was expected to return to the organizations ECHL team the Florida Everblades. It was then his downfall became more noticeable, a no show at the teams first day of camp and showing up 3 hours late at day two. Buchanan was sent home with an eventual second opportunity to prove himself once again. His reputation starting to dwindle he came in and had a strong start to the 2017 season. Then once again injuries would hit, this time a season ending shoulder injury. So too, would be Buchanan’s future with the organization. He would make an attempt to return in 2018, his shoulder once again failing him. He begin his old ways heavy into alcohol and the party scene of Fort Myers Beach. Coaches say to this day they had never seen a kid with more talent and work ethic then Buchanan had thrown away. It was believed heavily in the organization his unwillingness to work hard and take his recovery seriously is what would eventually cause his career to end. The popular teammate Buchanan would see his career end short lived, he was known as a very energetic funny guy in the room. Had the highest regarded character in his draft year, the talent to go places. He was compared a lot to Milan Lucic then of the Boston Bruins, same nasty edge but a quicker skater. His only issue as he got older was his unwillingness to listen and learn from his mistakes. Undoubtedly he would have played in the National Hockey League one scout quoted, he had a lot of the tools and the size to go with it. It would be his mental skills and decisions that would eventually cause his hockey career to end. For a kid that was rated that high and went that far, the rise and the fall, how it happened and why? These are questions only to be asked to Buchanan himself, unfortunately this is how his hockey journey legacy is remembered. Unfortunately it seems to be carrying over into real life decisions now as well recently being arrested.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
