Starting a new business can be exciting yet very stressful. But for one Minnesota woman it's becoming much more... shall we say strange... From adult movie directors contacting her to making the Top 10 Sexiest Business Women in Minnesota according to ranker.com and everyone that voted for her. Nikki Welch never would have imagined her new business taking her in this direction. Welch is the owner of a new business called Monkeying Around LLC. A business inspired by her 8 year old daughter. "I was hanging out with my daughter when she asked me if I knew how to sew a sock monkey because a bunch of the kids at her school had one and she wanted one too. I told her I'd try. That night, Welch and a friend ran to Walmart for supply's and then she got started. Welch said the original sock monkey's are ok but boring. My daughter is outgoing, silly, kind of a free spirit so I couldn't make her a boring old sock monkey. Once finished, Welch brought it to her daughter, she absolutely loved it, couldn't wait to show her friends at school. The next day Welch received a call from 14 parents asking if she could make their child one, the day after that, 57 parents reached out to her. "It was crazy, but we've been nonstop ever sense."
At Monkeying Around they have put a whole new twist on the sock monkey. They customize them any way you can imagine with endless options to choose from. Everyone at our station ordered one and we all love them!! Teachers are ordering them for their students as a special gift to give the kids at the end of the year, brides to-be are ordering them for their wedding parties.
Welch also added another one of a kind creation that they now also do at Monkeying Around. The Near & Dear Bear. The idea of this bear is great. Customers that have lost someone close to them can fill out The Near & Dear Bear order form and send it in along with an article of clothing from the person they lost. The item can be as small as a pair of socks to jeans or a hoodie. Once received they make a bear out of what you sent in. A bear that you can cuddle with or put on the mantle or shelf as a keep sake. The Near & Dear Bear is receiving recommendations from doctors and therapists as a great item to have to help with the grieving process. I'm grateful that I can help these families, at least a little, during such a terrible time. Welch said, "we don't just receive your order form and throw together a bear. Part of the order form, we ask if they can and would like to share how they lost their loved one. We also ask other questions because we care. And it's that simple. I personally read every single one sent in, I'm always crying my eyes out after reading them. Monkeying Around has a perfect customer rating and only positive reviews. We couldn't find a single negative comment about the business anywhere.
Ok now let's get back to the unusual attention Welch has received since becoming a new business owner. An adult film director even called during our interview with her. Welch put the call on speaker phone so we could hear the conversation. It was unbelievable. She nicely declined their offer. Welch said," they started calling after I had my business photos taken. I don't get it though, they aren't sexy photos or anything so I don't know where they are getting the impression I want to go from making bears and monkeys to porn" as she laughed. We asked Welch how she feels about making Ranker.com's Top 10 Sexiest Business Women in Minnesota list and she told us "it's crazy! When I got the call I thought someone was messing with me... I mean I didn't even know people could vote for me or that I was even nominated or whatever, It is pretty cool though" Welch placed 4th Sexiest Business Woman in Minnesota for 2020. She received flowers, a plaque, a bikini and $1000 cash. And guys,This sexy business woman is newly single!
We asked Welch what was next for Monkeying Around and her personally and she said, " for the business, just to continue doing what we're doing and hopefully being able to keep up with all the orders constantly coming in. For me, I don't know honestly. I want to get an English Bulldog puppy and start looking for a house" Are you going to make time to start dating again? "No, not right now. I'm still trying to get over a recent breakup. It really messed with my head... and broke my heart" Welch said with tears filling her eyes.
Monkeying Around LLC has a projected business value of $2,766,400 and doubling by the end of the year.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
