Discovering Demon Bats in Minecraft

I would say after many years spent on Minecraft, I knew almost everything there is to know. Imagine my shock at heading down into a cave for some Gold Ingots, donning my Diamond Armour and clutching my diamond sword, and being one-shot slaughtered by a freaking BAT!

I know, you’re just as shocked as me! Well early in 2020 the developers over at Java HQ decided to add a little surprise into the game. Bats are still passive mobs with the regular brown or red eyes just as before. but beware the new bats with white eyes, a brand new secret addition into the game. These little fellas fly around faster than other bats and bumping into them too many times could spell disaster for your mining trip.

After being brutally murdered by this supposedly harmless creature, I looked in the chat. Sure enough, the death log read “Killed by a bat”. I rushed to the patch notes and saw no mention of this new addition. I would have assumed it was a glitch if the kill feed hadn’t told me I was killed by the bat. What this means for anyone who doesn’t understand coding, is that a line of parent code exists in the meta that recognises death by bat. This in turn means that death by bat is not a gitch, but intentional.

After my failure to make light of this through the patch notes, I went onto my most frequently used Minecraft forum “Minniecraftos”. I used a targetted search “Death By Bat” and found over 10 articles all published by adventures who met the same sorry end as me.

At this point, I thought I should do my Minecrafting duty and conduct research on this little known topic. Off came the diamond armour, sword put away and out came the white lab coat and test tube. I decided to run some tests. You can see these in full on my YouTube channel, link at the end of this blog.

In short, I found that bumping into these creatures while “naked” (i.e. no armour, no weapons) gives you a 5 chance to die. (meaning I died 5 times in 100, yes I did it that many times, yes I’m that sad). This increases in increments of 10 dependant on what armour you’re wearing. Me in my diamond armour at the start had a whopping 55 chance to die on contact. It seems these bats HATE any kind of swagger and use their meta breaking insta kill to end you.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
