Most people know the struggle of waiting for the next season of their favorite shows to premiere, but no fandom knows the struggle more than the Sherlock fandom. Fans of the BBC show have been waiting for a new season since early 2017 when the show's season 4 finale was released.
Most shows would be considered over after that long of a wait, but filming the hour-long episodes is difficult with the conflicting schedules of lead actors Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman. However, BBC producers were not optimistic about the possibility of a fifth season, with Cumberbatch starring as Dr. Strange in his upcoming Marvel sequel and Freeman's main role in BBC's new show, The Responder.
Sherlock co-creator Steven Moffat did not express much optimism about the next season premiering soon, predicting that another season wouldn't be out until 2023 at the latest. He stated that there weren't any official plot ideas, so he was unsure if the show would continue.
Then earlier today, the BBC Network shocked millions of fans by announcing the official release date for the long-awaited fifth season of Sherlock was June 18, 2021. It seems as though the entire cast and crew of Sherlock kept quiet about the filming of the next season.
Benedict Cumberbatch will return as the title character and will be joined by Martin Freeman as his close companion Watson. We can also expect the return of Una Stubbs as Sherlock's beloved landlord, Mrs. Hudson, Mark Gatiss as Sherlock's older brother, Mycroft Holmes, Louise Brealey as Sherlock's potential love interest, Molly Hooper, and Rupert Graves as Detective Greg Lestrade. We can also expect to see Andrew Scott and Amanda Abbington possibly return in flashbacks as their respective deceased characters, Sherlock's adversary, Jim Moriarty, and Watson's wife, Mary Watson (nee Morstan). One new character is John Watson's young daughter, Rosamund. The last season ended with the introduction of Sherlock's long-lost sister, Eurus Holmes, played by Sian Brooke, and revealed forgotten events from Sherlock's childhood.
BBC announced that the new season trailer would be released on Monday, April 5 and that Sherlock and Watson had "a lot of surprises in store" for the fans, such as new characters, complicated mysteries, Sherlock's changed relationship with Molly Hooper, more forgotten past memories, new romances, faked deaths, the fact that this was all fake, special episodes, crossovers, and more! Further updates can be found on BBC's homepage.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
