HUNTERSVILLE, NC (Apr. 18, 2017) - That didn't take very long.

On Tuesday, a team spokesman confirmed that Wednesday's Joe Gibbs Racing announcement at the NASCAR Hall of Fame was related to this year's racing season and had nothing to do with 2018 retirement talks of former Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Champion Matt Kenseth, the current driver of Gibbs' No. 20 Toyota.

Sources have revealed that statement is accurate, however the details are not what many in the industry expected.

Kenseth, the oldest driver in the Gibbs program at 45 years old, was rumored to be announcing his retirement at the end of the season. Team officials insisted there was no truth to the rumor and the upcoming announcement was related to the current season.

Indeed it is.

Multiple sources who asked to remain anonymous confirmed that Kenseth will be stepping away immediately from the No. 20 Toyota, vacating the seat while ranked outside the top 20 in Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series points. Former driver of the No. 19 Toyota, Carl Edwards, will be announced as the interim fill-in driver for the remainder of the season.

Our office has reached out to NASCAR inquiring if Edwards would be eligible for the playoffs pending he meets all other elements of qualification including ending the regular season in the top 30 in points and obtaining at least one race win. As of press time, those phone calls had yet to be returned.

Over the offseason, Carl Edwards announced he was stepping away from the No. 19 Toyota in a move that shocked industry insiders. 2016 NASCAR Xfinity Series Champion Daniel Suarez was tabbed to fill the seat and begin his rookie season in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.

Many speculated Edwards was leaving to form a new team with Dodge in 2018 or 2019, a manufacturer rumored and expected by many to return to the sport within the next two years. He denied such allegations during his emotional press conference at JGR and emphatically stated any returns he made to NASCAR's top series would be with the Gibbs organization.

Traditionally, JGR contracts with sponsors are with the team itself and do not directly tie their support to a specific driver with the exception of personal service agreements. Current sponsors of the No. 20 team are expected to remain in place for the duration of their agreements, or at least through the end of the 2017 season.

Edwards will replace Kenseth at Bristol this weekend despite Kenseth's name appearing on the official entry list released on Monday.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
