The look on his face said it all. Drew Brees sat from the sideline and watched as the Saints defense nearly allowed the Carolina Panthers to cap off a comeback and send Brees and his team to the golf course to begin their offseason.

The almost-blown lead was by no means the fault of Brees and his offense who put up over 30 points for the third time this season on the Carolina Panthers. We were able to catch up to the frustrated quarterback after the game for comments.

“We got lucky today”, Brees told us, “that penalty call stopped their momentum. Otherwise I really think that it would be them (the Panthers) heading to Minnesota next weekend, not us.”

When asked about the defensive play calling, Brees was quick to tell who he felt it laid on. “Denis (Allen) needs to straighten that ship out. This team is built to win, and if he can’t get that out of the guys he has to work with, he’ll be headed in the same direction as (Rob) Ryan.”

Brees offered some foreshadowing of what might happen when his contract reaches free agency this spring. “I don’t know at this point. If we go on, win the Super Bowl, or even just make it there, I have no plans of leaving New Orleans. But 2009 was a long time ago. Since then I feel I’ve put in a lot and I’ve had a lot working against me. We haven’t even reached the conference championship since then.”

The Saints have gone 7-9 three different times despite Brees having more passing yards than any other quarterback this decade.

“I’ll have to weigh my options”, Brees informed reporters, “there’s a lot of young teams out there that I think I could really make an impact on. Cleveland has cap space, could you imagine having myself and (Josh) Gordon on an offense? We’ll have to see.”

While there’s no doubt that the Saints front office will do everything in their power to hang on to their veteran quarterback, it sounds like a lot of his future hangs with the team’s playoff performance this year, beginning with the divisional game against the Vikings this Sunday at 4:40 EST. Will the Super Bowl winking quarterback stay with the Saints, or will he try his hand with a new home next year? Only time will tell.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
