When it comes to doing drug screenings for the workplace, meeting probation requirements or using an at home test when the 1 test that is used is the Urine Analysis. In fact it makes up about 85 of the drug screening market. Far exceeding, hair follicles and blood testing kits. Widely used because of their quick results and low cost they have become your local stoners worst nightmare but may have saved many lives. But how accurate is the UA?

Studies have shown that though it has a high accuracy rate it is not fool proof. There are many different factors that can determine if a UA is going to come back clean or not. With the federal legalization of marijuana being inevitable. Law enforcement and Companies who drug screen could face many hurdles when it cones to the legality of such screens. So researchers at Vanderbilt University wanted to see just how accurate these test were.

Some of their findings were quite surprising.
They have found of course as we all know that hydration can clear out a UA quickly. Of course many labs will tag it as diluted and most times the client has to resubmit another analysis. However researchers were intrigued when they found that how the drug is administered does play a factor in how long it will stay in your blood stream. They tested 20 subjects who were all regular users of Methamphatine. They however all took the drug in many different ways. Smoking the drug was the most popular with IV use being the next favorite way. You may think that the Methamphetamine had a similar half life in the blood stream regardless of how it was used. They found that intravenous users test were coming up negative for Methamphetamine 30-35 hours after last use. Where as the subjects who smoked it had traces between 3-5 days. Researchers say that this is becasue when the drug is inhaled through the lungs it leaves a residue on the lungs that takes more time to process. When administered intravenously it already had a head start being directed straight to blood stream.

These findings will help researchers find better ways to make more accurate test in the future. As far as Urine Analysis reign as drug screening king I see it stayingvthere until other methods become more cost effective. However i do predict that private companies will have to find other routes because of the wide variables they found. We could see lawsuits popping up all over The U.S. Very soon because of innacurate tests resukting in termination. When it comes to testing in home though i believe that is the best way to go.

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
