A lifelong Calcasieu Parish resident, Charles Lockett is known for his passion, energy, commitment to community and unifying presence. Lockett, who has developed a household name for his selfless servitude and knowledge of government, hopes to expanded his strong commitment to community service with a new role, the District 5 representative on the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury.
Charles Lockett strives to bring the same energy, passion, determination, work ethic and empathy that his community has come to know and respect to the CPPJ.
He is a graduate of McNeese State University, Rice University, and Sowela Community College. Having earned a Bachelor’s of Arts in Government and Humanities, and a degree in Process Technology.
Lockett’s story is one of achievement despite the odds and overcoming the obstacles that life can place before you. He has been quoted as saying that “education saved his life”. Lockett has served as an educator, teaching government and politics to students across Calcasieu Parish. These experiences have shown him that all people are facing similar challenges, and he welcomes the opportunity to become a more well-rounded advocate for the entire 5th district.
"I know that the people of the 5th District want someone on the Police Jury who will fight hard for them. I want them to know that I will do everything I can to serve them. I've taught American Government and understand that representative democracy has a responsibility to carry the voices, the concerns and the narratives of the people. I look forward to meeting the residents of the 5th District, listening, learning and discussing the issues that you care about over the next several months," says Lockett .

whale spotted in illinois river A humpback whale was spotted near Morris IL in the Illinois River today. The sighting comes just days after 2 Great White Sharks were seen frolicking in the same area. While not impossible, it does seem unlikely. It is thought that the whale may have followed the sharks as they sometimes do in the wild. The whale would of had to travel over 1250 miles to get to this location. The Marine Biologist Association will be in town for a full investigation. Until we have answers, we are asking folks to keep their pontoons and fishing boats docked.

two great white sharks found swimming in mississippi river near saint louis, missouri. While it is not entirely impossible, it is incredibly uncommon for salt water dwelling creatures to stay for lengthy periods of time in fresh water. However, two Great White Sharks have managed to survive the trip and make their way up the Mississippi River somehow. Believed to have started as a mating couple, the two are assumed to have swam the 920 mile journey from the mouth of the Mississippi River that is connected to the Gulf Of Mexico. Officials in Saint Louis have contacted the Missouri Conservation Department and will likely have a team in the river soon to capture the two lost sharks.
